January
Bar Olympics
Olympians square off in 2 player team competitions in Pool, Darts, and Foosball (or some mix of three different games). Teams are picked randomly and then randomly assigned to one of the three fields of competition. Prizes are typically given for the winning teams. The rules of the games are explained before play begins.
State Jaycee Convention
The Jaycee State conventions are a time when all of the chapters send their members to get training, meet other chapter members and network, compete in Speak-Up, Write-Up and debate. Awards are also handed out to the best chapters competing in Road Run points, best chapter website, most members recruited, best project, best community project etc. New members have the opportunity to get their registration paid for if they attend the specific first-timers training at convention. First-Timers is a program that takes all of the new members and gives them an overview of what the Jaycee mission is and how we go about achieving this mission. 
 
February
Supershots
The Jaycees Supershots competition allows youngsters to showcase their basketball talents with scores based on shooting accuracy and speed. The top three place finishers from each of twelve age groups at the Local competition will advance to the State competition. The State competition will be held on the game court at the Target Center, prior to a Timberwolves vs. Hornets game. All State competitors will have an opportunity to watch the Timberwolves as they prepare for the game and will be allowed to participate in an autograph session with the players. State bracket champions will take part in the half-time skills demonstration at that evening’s Timberwolves game.
 
March
State Bowling
This event is held at a different location each year and is open to Jaycee members and alumni. There are singles, doubles and team events held over a two-day span. There is usually prizes given out and a social after the bowling events.
April
Walkabout
Walkabout involves 9 downtown bars in which each participant goes to 9 different mini-golf holes and putts and their score is denoted on their score card.  Participants will receive a free beer at each bar.  Prizes will be given out randomly at different bars.
 
May
Sandbox Fill
The annual sandbox fill is held on the first Saturday in May.  Area residents in Mankato and North Mankato have the chance to order sand to be delivered for their child’s sandbox or their garden. The cost is $7 per wheelbarrow load or 3 for $20. Then on the first Saturday all of the Jaycees volunteers and get truck loads of sand from South Central Concrete and deliver it to the residents.  A portion of profits go to the McGowan History Festival.

June
Pitch, Hit and Run
The local Mankato youth can participate in this event that showcases their skills pitching hitting and running. The winners of this event advance to sectionals and then from there the winners go to State to compete. Usually during/before a Twins game!
 
Solstice Festival
Solstice Festival is held at Land of Memories park in Mankato usually on Father’s Day.  The event features numerous bands playing amongst the beautiful river valley. There are also crafts and food for sale. This is a fundraising event for Jack McGowan’s History Festival that he holds on his farm every October.  Check out the official website for this event at http://www.solsticemankato.com/ The Mankato Area Jaycees volunteer at this event by helping with parking, security and backstage (band set-up and tear-down assistance). 
 
National Brew Fest
The National Brew Fest consists of beer sampling from 4-7pm and then beer is available for purchase after the tasting is over.  There is also a wide selection of bands playing.  Check out their website for more details http://www.nationalbrewfest.com/  The event takes place in downtown Mankato by the Civic Center. The Mankato Area Jaycees  volunteer at the event-usually the 4th weekend in June.  We volunteer by pouring beer.
 
July
North Mankato Fun Days Kiddie Parade
The Mankato Area Jaycees help out the Community Education and Recreation dept. and line up the kids for the parade route and then help pass out treats after the parade is done.
 
North Mankato Fun Days Tractor Pull
The Mankato Area Jaycees volunteer at the registration desk, set up the tractors and the weights and hand out a treat to the children at this event. The tractors and registration materials are all provided by an outside vendor –we just provide the manpower.
 
Relay for Life
This annual event is an overnight event where participants raise money for cancer research. We have the opportunity to participate in a variety of different ways.
 
State Softball
All members can play softball at this one day tournament hosted in a various locations each year. The team can be made up of 50% members and 50% potential Jaycee members. This is a great way to meet other members from other chapters all over the state of MN!
 
August
Blue Earth County Fair & Nicollet County Fair
Opportunities to help serve beer at these events as well as recruit new Jaycee members and get our name out in the community.
 
Old Town Summer Festival
This is an annual event that takes place in downtown Mankato around the last weekend in August. The Jaycees run the Beer Garden and we receive a portion of the proceeds. The Beer Garden usually has a stage where various bands play throughout the day.
 
Renaissance Festival
The Mankato Area Jaycees have the opportunity to work at the Ren Fest and serve beer for the Shakopee Jaycees. The Shakopee chapter serves beer every weekend during this event. Members are asked to sign-up ahead of time and they can park for free, wear a costume and then serve beer for free admission into the event. Usually the shift is 2 hrs working, 2 hrs free time and then 2 hrs working and 2 hrs free time…repeated throughout the whole day. This is a fun event to work and meet other chapter members from all over MN and get to see the Ren Festival during your breaks! http://www.renaissancefestival.com/
 
September
State Jaycee Fall Convention

State Golf
Jaycee members get to participate on a 4 person team against other chapters from all over the state. The Mankato chapter pays for the registration of all state sporting events!
 
 
Punt, Pass & Kick-Regional
Children can showcase their football skills in this competition for grades 4-9. This event includes children having to punt, pass and kick a football as close to the out stretched tape measure as possible. The child in each grade and boy/girl category with the most distance advances onto Sectionals. 
 
October
Punt, Pass & Kick –Sectionals
Children can showcase their football skills in this competition for grades 4-9. This event includes all of the children that have placed 2nd or 3rd at their regional events. The winners of this event move onto the state level and compete at during/before a Vikings game!
 
 
History Festival
Jack McGowan, an outstanding community member, opens up his converted farm grounds for youth of all ages to learn about history. There are log cabins, a cannon, candle making, zip-line, hacket throwing, dominoes, branding wood, games, all put on by community members and volunteers dressed and acting in this historical period.  Check out their website at http://www.historyfest.com/ 
 
State Volleyball
Jaycee members participate at a one or two day indoor tournament held in a different location each year. All players must be Jaycees. The Chapter pays for the registration fee for all Jaycee sporting events.
 
Vine Rake-the-Town
Elderly & disabled residents in Mankato and North Mankato sign up to get their lawns raked (leaves to curb). VINE takes all of the homes that have pre-registered for this event and divides them up amongst tons of different volunteer groups and each group is assigned to 3 or 4 homes within a few blocks of each other. The Jaycees take 3-4 homes and rake their leaves to the curb. This event is always the last Saturday of the month!
Magic Show
The Mankato Area Jaycees are hosting a Magic show for area children.  Volnteers are needed to man the Jaycee booth and help seat families at the event.
 
November
Progressive Dinner
Members sign up to serve one course of a 4-5 course dinner and participants drive to 4-5 different homes and we eat one course at each members home and have a chance to relax and get to know the other members.
 
December
Salvation Army Gift Wrapping
Volunteer one evening at the River Hills Mall helping the Salvation Army by wrapping gifts for the holiday shoppers. All money raised goes toward the Red Kettle fund.
 
Sharing Tree Gift Sorting
Sort all of the donated gifts so that they can be delivered before Christmas to needy families. Usually 2-3 hrs 5-7pm at the National Armory.
